Political parties in Dominica finalising candidates ahead of nomination day

Political parties in Dominica are scrambling to get their candidates in place ahead of nomination day on November 18.

This as Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit last night called a snap general election for December 6.

Political analysts says Prime Minister Skerrit is seeking to take advantage of turmoil in the opposition United Workers Party, UWP, whose leader, Lennox Linton, resigned as party leader last month.

Mr Skerrit led the ruling Dominica Labour Party (DLP) to victory in the 2019 general election winning 18 of the 21 seats with the remainder going to the UWP.

Mr Skerrit told the nation that he had already asked President Charles Savarin to dissolve the Parliament with immediate effect and issue a writ for the general election.
