Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Denise Walters

Another tragedy has struck the local horse racing industry as fans will never see 2000 Guineas winner Commander Two race again. The 3 year old bay gelding who landed the 2000 Guineas on April 15, died on Friday night after he stopped breathing on the operation table.

Commander Two who was conditioned by Patrick Taylor, was undergoing surgery for a foot injury sustained in the lead-up to the Derby on June 30. The specific cause of death is not yet known. Another classic contestant Western Legend died from colic on May 7.
