It's now official that the 2020 local jockey's championship is a tie between Dane Nelson and Anthony Thomas. The final matter that could have had a bearing on the outcome was settled by the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) on Tuesday. Nelson and Thomas ended on 84 wins each.
The 2020 crown is Nelson's 4th local championship, having previously won it from 2012 to 2014, while Thomas is gaining his second hold, having landed his first title in 2018. It's only the second time in 50 years that the local jockey's championship has ended in a tie.
Meanwhile, Thomas who was slapped with a five race day ban and fined $20,000 after his disqualification aboard Sir Alton on November 28 of last year, had his punishment reduced at Tuesday's hearing into his appeal.
The suspension has now been cut to three days effective February 28, while the $20,000 fine has been reversed.
