Air of excitement over schoolgirls basketball competition

New trust with an air of excitement and development, is expected as the 2019-20 season of the ISSA schoolgirls basketball season tipped off at the launch held at the GC Foster College. 22 teams from across the three conferences were on display at the launch of the new season. St James’ Mount Alvernia from the Western Conference, captured the first title on offer by topping the dress parade.

They then went on to defeat one of their 4 conference rivals, William Knibb 29-10, in an exhibition game as action started on the courts. Also making a winning start to the new season was Glenmuir High, who got the better of Decarteret College 22-8, in a glimpses of what to expect from the 5-team in the Central Conference.

The Queen's School staked their claim as one to watch in the 12-teams Southern Conference after beating St Hugh's High 21- 10 in their exhibition game. Former champions Camperdown High also won for themselves a ball after coming out on top in the free throw after coming out on top in the free throw contest.

National basketball coordinator Alf Remikie bemoaned the low standard of the girls and play in the league. With this in mind the league organizers are making plans to restructure the schoolgirls competition play in the individual conferences is expected to begin next week.
