Radio Jamaica Sports understands that coach Rory Alvaranga has been removed from the council of the Aquatic Sports Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) following its council meeting on Wednesday.
Radio Jamaica Sports sources revealed that Alvaranga was removed for communicating with external persons on matters relating to internal affairs.
On Tuesday, Radio Jamaica Sports reported the contents of a letter which Alvaranga wrote to ASAJ vice president Georgia Sinclair, expressing his displeasure at the sum they requested from the world governing body FINA for a scholarship grant for one of his athletes.
It’s understood that the motion to remove Alvaranga from the council was put forward by secretary Shauna Jackson and seconded by vice president Sinclair.
It was then put to a vote where 5 clubs joined the 7 officers of the association in voting in favour of removing Alvaranga, while 5 voted against and 3 abstained.
It’s understood that some members are puzzled as to why the matter was not first recommended to the disciplinary committee. Alvaranga is the head coach at Kaizen Swim Club.
