Patrick “Wacky" Lynch's 3 year old chestnut colt Blue Vinyl is now on course to land this year's Triple Crown series after prevailing in the highly-promoted clash with Atomica to win Saturday's 96th running of the jamaica St Leger over 10 furlongs in impressive fashion at Caymanas Park.

Blue Vinyl the 2000 Guineas winner under jockey Raddesh Roman, drew alongside Atomica, the 1-5 favourite and 1000 Guineas winner with a little over three furlongs to go and would eventually win the battle of the sexes in the 4.5 million contest.

Blue Vinyl who was sent off the 7-5 second choice, provided Roman with his second classic victory in what was his second classic ride, coming home in 2 minutes, seven-and-three-fifths of a second to win by 4-and-a-quarter lengths.
It was the first St Leger winner for trainer Lynch.

The final leg of the Triple Crown series, the Jamaica Derby over 12 furlongs, will be run on Independence day, August 6.

Meanwhile, the 2-5 favourite Mahogany under title-chasing jockey Dane Dawkins for trainer Ian Parsard, captured the supporting feature, the inaugural running of the Clovis Metcalfe Cup, an Open Allowance race over 7 and a half furlongs.

Racing continues next Saturday.
