Campbell to remain Scorpions captain

Radio Jamaica Sports has been informed that opener John Campbell will remain captain of the Jamaica Scorpions team despite the selection of West Indies vice-captain Jermaine Blackwood.

There were concerns over the availability of Campbell as Radio Jamaica Sports understands the left-hander had not been vaccinated.

However, a source close to the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) informed Radio Jamaica Sports that this is no longer an issue.

It's understood that Campbell had to present a negative Covid-19 test at his expense before every trial game.

In the meantime, there are some surprise inclusions in the Scorpions squad for the regional 4-day championship with Leroy Lugg, Brad Barnes and Kirk McKenzie all earning maiden 4-day call-ups.

The 15-man squad also sees the return of wicketkeeper Romain Morris who has been selected ahead of Aldane Thomas.

The full squad reads: Brad Barnes, Jermaine Blackwood, Gordon Bryan, John Campbell, Nicholson Gordon, Derval Green, Patrick Harty, Leroy Lugg, Kirk McKenzie, Jamie Merchant, Marquino Mindley, Romaine Morris, Paul Palmer Jr, Alwyn Williams and Oraine Williams.

The first round of this year's regioinal 4-day competition is slated for February 9-12.

The Scorpions will meet Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in their opening contest at the Brian Lara Stadium.
