2018 St Leger winner Marquesas recorded his first victory in more than two years and turned out to be one of three winners for former champion jockey Dick Cardenas on Friday's 8-race card at Caymanas Park.
The 5 year old bay horse who was returning to the track after a break of close to 10 months, landed the Non-Restricted Overnight Allowance contest over 8-and-a-half furlongs for 3 year old and up.
The Michael Marlowe-trained Marquesas went off at 9-2. Marquesas came home in 1:45.0 and won by 2-and-half lengths.
Cardenas' other winners were Dontae at 9-5 in race 4 and the 2-1 chance Voytek in the closing event. No trainer had more than one win.
Meanwhile, Anthony Thomas remains 13 wins clear of Dane Nelson in the race for the jockeys' championship after each achieved one victory on the programme. Thomas is now on 66 wins, with Nelson on 53.
Racing continues on Saturday with a 9-race card featuring The Viceory Trophy", an Open Allowanxce and Grades Stakes event over a mile.
Sir Alton from the stables of 18-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta with leading jockey Anthony Thomas astride, is the 8 - 5 ante post favourite.
The small field is completed by Supreme Soul with Oshane Nugent; Toona Ciliata the mount of Dane Nelson; Summer Sun with Javaniel Patterson; Sentient to be partnered by Robert Halledeen and Universal Boss with Dick Cardenas. First post is noon with live coverage of all races on Power 106 FM.
