Cardenas returns to the saddle after recovering from injury

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Spencer Darlington

Former champion jockey Dick Cardenas makes a return to the saddle at Caymanas Park this weekend after being sidelined for a few months because of injury.

The 2011 champion jockey has secured four mounts on Saturday's 9-race card at Caymanas Park, signalling his return to competitive race riding after being out of the saddle for almost three months.

The 37 year old rider suffered three broken ribs and a punctured lung after falling from his mount De Inevitable in race number 4 on the December 18 programme last year.

He underwent surgery at the University Hospital of The West Indies and then went to the United States for further treatment.

In the meantime, Cardenas has also decided to change his agent from one veteran to another in moving from Donovan Wilson to Leroan Lee.
