Eagles in charge against Panthers in JCA Elite League

The Eastern Eagles were in full control of their eighth round JCA 2-day Elite League encounter against the Northern Panthers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Eagles first posted 221 all out with Coi Thompson top scoring with an undefeated 62. He got good support from Cassius Burton who made 47.  Damani Sewell 5-53, was the pick of the Panthers' bowlers.

In response,. the Panthers were tottering at 93-5 when stumps were drawn. Kevin Daley 49 and Damani Sewell 16 are the not out batsmen when play resumes on Sunday.

Elsewhere, defending champions Central Titans are in command   against the Western Warriors in a low scoring encounter at the Noranda Bauxite Ground. The Warriors were first shot out for 50 with Pete Salmon bagging 4-17 and Jeavor Royal 4-19.

The Titans in response could only muster 92 all out as Royal top scored with 24 against 5 wickets apiece for Paul Harrison and Andre McCarthy. The Warriors trailing by 42 on first innings, were reeling at 62-7 to lead by 21 runs with three wickets in hand.

In the day's other game, the Southern Seals closed on 246-6 with unbeaten half centuries from Jamie Merchant 62 and Brian Gayle 55 against the Combined Universities and Colleges.
