The English Football Association are questioning whether Phoenix Academy is affiliated with the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF).
The enquiry comes days after Phoenix Academy announced that one of its star players, Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richards, had signed a pre-contract with English Premier League club, Chelsea.
Radio Jamaica Sports checked with the JFF and its general secretary, Dennis Chung, confirmed that it was in receipt of the correspondence from the English FA.
“So, we did receive a request from the FA in England asking us to confirm if Phoenix Academy is registered with the JFF,” Chung told Radio Jamaica Sports.
“What we have done is that we have sent out, as per usual, to our parish associations to just make query as to whether Phoenix is registered with either of them after which we will do a reply to the FA, as is per usual,” Chung said from the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali, Rwanda on Tuesday.
On Saturday, founder of Phoenix Academy Craig Butler announced via his verfied instagram page that his striker Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richards is heading to English Premier League club Chelsea FC after a pre-contract was signed with the London club.
