Former Horse of the Year makes seasonal debut

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Denise Walters

2018 Horse of the Year, Will in Charge is set to make his seasonal debut after more than a year out, in the non-restricted Overnight Allowance contest over 7 furlongs, on the Independence Day programme at Caymanas Park on Thursday.

Will in Charge had his best season in 2018, defeating super filly She's A Maneater four times before going on to land the coveted Diamond Mile. However, Will in Charge only had three starts in 2019.

He stumbled out of the gates to finish fifth on June 30 of that year and hasn't raced since. The former Horse of the Year, will not only be shouldering top weight of 126 pounds, but will also have a change in rider from customary jockey Robert Halledeen to former 6-time champion Omar Walker.

9 horses are set to face the starter at 5:11 p.m. 10 races are on the card with first post set for 12:20 p.m.
