Former national youth footballer dies in the United States

Former national youth team footballer Shane Stevens is dead. The 38 year old who was residing in Philadelphia, USA, died at home on Monday. It's understood that he was hypertensive. Stephens was a standout both at the school and club levels, representing Clarendon College and Charlie Smith, as well as  Real Mona and Arnett Gardens.

The talented defender was a part of the historic team that qualified for the country's first ever youth World Cup, the FIFA Under-17 tournament in 1999.

Two years later he was again a member of another historic team, the Under 20s, who were the first Jamaicans to make it to a World Cup at that age group. Stevens had one cap at the senior level, a game he played against the Cayman Islands in august 2000.
