International cricket could soon be back at the Trelawny Stadium as the first regional game in 11 years draws attention to the venue. In an exclusive interview with Radio Jamaica Sports, first vice-president of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Dr Donovan Bennett, revealed that western Jamaica might not have to wait long before the West Indies men's team makes a stop in Trelawney.
“When Sri Lanka comes to the Caribbean in 2021, they’ll play a T20 International down here,” he said. In the past the stadium has hosted the West Indies women, West Indies 'A' and tour games.
Local cricket fans have raised concerns over the location of the stadium in Florence Hall which could lead to limited support for games. Following the ongoing regional 4-day game between the Jamaica Scorpions and the Leeward Islands Hurricanes, the Jamaican franchise will host the Guyana Jaguars at the same venue starting February 27.
