Jamaican Nick Richards drafted to the NBA

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Simon Preston

Nick Richards became the first Jamaican to be drafted to the NBA since 2010 as he was selected in the second round of the draft on Wednesday evening.

The 22 year old six foot eleven inch centre was initially drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans but was immediately traded to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for a 2024 second round draft pick.

The former Jamaica College student, earned this move after an impressive 2019/20 campaign with the University of Kentucky where he was selected in the South Eastern Conference team of the year.

Richards is the first Jamaican since Jerome Jordan to be drafted by an NBA franchise. Jordan was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks but eventually suited up for New York Knicks.
