Jamaica's table tennis team gets sponsorship boost for Pan Am Youth Champs

Voices of JTTA president Andrew Lue and SDF General Manager Denzil Wilks

Jamaica's table tennis team to the upcoming Pan American Youth Championship in the Dominican Republic got a major boost on Friday with a sponsorship presentation of $1.7 million from the Sports Development Foundation (SDF).

The Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) was forced to cut Jamaica's delegation for the event down to six including 4 players due to a lack of funding.

The JTTA had been seeking $4.5 million to send a 15-member contingent to the championships.

SDF General Manager Denzil Wilks said his organization answered the call, given that the potential exists for the youngsters to make the transition to the higher level.

Jamaica's team which is being coached by Sandra Reittie, will depart the island on Saturday. The finalists in all events will qualify for the World Youth Championships to be held in Portugal from December 2-6.
