CEO of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) Ryan Foster says the value of athletes' insurance cannot be understated despite the fact that it may not be used very often. Marathon Insurance has decided to partner with the JOA to provide coverage for the nation's athletes for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
“People may look on insurance as being cursory but it’s very important. Look at the Commonwealth Games; we had an injury to a netballer which had to come under our insurance coverage and with the Olympic Games having 10 sporting disciplines hopefully for Jamaica in Tokyo 2020, we need to ensure that we have the revelant coverage and that our athletes are at peace,” said Foster.
A cheque of $1.5 million was also presented to the JOA by Marathon Insurance on Monday to assist with the athletes who will participate at next year's Games, which will take place from July 24 to August 9.
