JRC contemplates granting Fletcher stay to continue riding while appeal date is finalized

Radio Jamaica Sports understands that jockey Samantha Fletcher could be granted a stay by the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) to continue riding while a date is being finalized for her appeal against a 25 race day suspension.

Reliable sources say Fletcher was initially denied a stay but it's understood that her representative presented strong arguments on her behalf on Tuesday and the JRC is now contemplating granting her clearance to continue riding starting on Sunday.

Last Tuesday, Fletcher was handed a 25 race day ban for not taking all reasonable and permissable measure throughout the 4th event on February 4 astride Gone a Negril to ensure the horse was given its best possible placing.

Gone a Negril who was sent off at 8-1, finished 7th among the 9 runners who contested the 6 furlong race, but returned 18 days later to win by 11-and-three-quarter lengths also with fletcher in the saddle. The suspension is due to take effect this Saturday.
