President of the Jamaica Jockeys' Guild Shane Ellis says he has been imploring the stewards of the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) to give jockeys a relaxation in weight to protect their health when local racing resumes.
The 2-time former champion jockey says he has been lobbying the JRC since racing was being run behind closed doors in March, but adds that it has been an uphill task.
However, chairman of the JRC Clovis Metcalfe says racing hasn't been suspended long enough to honour that request. Racing at Caymanas Park has been suspended indefinitely since March 21 due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Stakeholders are hoping to have a resumption by mid-June.
