King Arthur lands Menudo Trophy feature

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Spencer Darlington

Last year's Derby winner King Arthur upstaged a small but quality line-up to land Saturday’s feature Menudo Trophy for 3 year old and up Open Allowance runners over 10 furlongs.

King Arthur who was sent off as the joint 5-2 second choice in the field of seven, was scoring his first victory over two turns since landing last year's Jamaica Derby.

He was ridden to victory by leading jockey and joint defending champion Anthony Thomas for trainer Jason DaCosta.

The 4 year old bay gelding won by three-quarter lengths, coming home in 2 minutes, 07.4 seconds.

Trainer Johnny Wilmot had a three-timer on the 10 race card, having saddled Nuclear Emma, Devine Lexie and Deep Blue Sea to victories in races 3, 7 and 10 respectively.

No jockey had more than one win on the card. Racing continues on Monday with an 11 race programme.
