Lameness forces ante-post favourite out of Caymanas Park feature

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Spencer Darlington

It's trainer's day at Caymanas Park on Saturday with the United Racehorse Trainers' Association Trophy being the feature in addition to all other races being named after past or present trainers.

Radio Jamaica Sports understands that Richard Azan's talented American 3 year old bay colt Eroy who was the ante post favourite for the $1 million feature which is a non-restricted overnight allowance contest for 3 year old and up over 7-and-a-half furlongs, will not be facing the starter due to lameness.

This now leaves the 4 year old bay gelding Universal Boss from the barn of champion trainer Anthony "Baba" Nunes to assume the ante-post favouritism at 3-1.

Meanwhile, the heated battle will continue for the jockeys' championship which has now become a regular attraction. Leading rider Anthony Thomas and arch rival Dane Nelson have each secured 9 mounts. Thomas currentlty has 74 wins, 7 clear of Nelson.

In the trainers' category, the leading conditioner and reigning champion Anthony "Baba" Nunes will send out 8 runners, while 18-time former champion Wayne DaCosta who is occupying second in the standings, will saddle 11 runners.

First post is 11:10 am with live coverage of all races on Power 106 FM.
