Melbourne Cricket Club held the ascendancy over Portland Cricket Association at stumps on day 1 of their 4th round JCA 2-day Senior Cup match at the Melbourne Oval.
Batting first, Portland were dismissed for 194 with Herman Henry making the bulk of the runs with 90 and Robert Weir getting 61 against 4-38 from Andre McCarthy and 3-23 from Matthew Comerie.
Melbounrne then went to stumps on 181-2, a deficit of just 13 runs with Javelle Glenn top scoring so far with 65 and Michael Frew on 50 against 2-63 from Atoy Newell.
Elsewhere, Kingston Cricket Club held the advantage over the JDF in their contest at Sabina Park.
Having been sent to bat, Kingston were dismissed for 194 with Andre Bailey top scoring with 68 and Shelton Forbes chipping in with 40.
Gordon Bryan bagged 7-32 and Leighton Leslie 2-29. JDF then closed on 83-7 with Leslie being not out on 27 and Oshane Williams with him on 11.
Bailey has returned to take 4-30 and Carlton Green 2-16.
