Mighty Heart romps to upset victory in Queen's Plate

Commentary on 2020 Queen's Plate

The 3 year old bay colt Mighty Heart created a 13-1 upset in landing the 161st running of the $1 million Queen's Plate over 10 furlongs, Canada's most prestigious race, and the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown at the Woodbine Race Track in Toronto on Saturday.

Mighty Heart completed a one-two for female trainer Josie Carroll, who actually had three horses in the event, including the 5-2 chance Curlin's Voyage who finished fifth under Barbadian-born jockey Patrick Husbands.

Mighty Heart who made most of the running, was guided to victory by 23 year old Japanese-born jockey Diasuke Fukumoto who was getting his first ever ride in the Queen's Plate.
The second leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, the Prince of Wales Stakes over 9-and-a-half furlongs, will be run on September 29 at Fort Erie in Ontario.
