President of the MVP Track Club, Bruce James, says the club will continue to plan for the 2021 athletics season, even with the uncertainty of several events including the Tokyo Olympics. This past summer, MVP put on the Velocity Fest series of track and field meets at Jamaica College's Ashenheim Stadium and the National Stadium which allowed local athletes to compete under strict COVID-19 protocols.
However, the pandemic saw the postponement of the quadrennial Summer Games to next year, as well as the cancellation of a number of overseas and local track and field events including the Racers Grand Prix and the Jamaica International Invitational.
With the number of COVID-19 cases still high across the world and could continue into 2021, James says they cannot afford to be unprepared if competitions are held.
