New champion to be crowned in JPL

A new champion will be crowned in this season's Jamaica Premier League after the top six was decided on Friday at the JFF Captain Horace Centre of Excellence.

Portmore were ousted by Waterhouse who clipped them 1-0 to ensure they finish top of the table on 19 points.

Shaquille Bradford was the difference between the teams netting the winner in the 61st minute as the outgoing champions ended eight on 13 points from 10 games.

Mount Pleasant Academy gave themselves a shot of finishing in the top two to qualify for the semi-finals after thrashing Dunbeholden 5-2.

The St Ann based team had goals from five different scorers and moved to 18 points but can be surpassed should Cavalier, Vere United and Tivoli Gardens record wins in their respective matches.

Harbour View booked their spot in the playoffs when Lovel Palmer's 70th minute free kick gave them a 1-0 win over Arnett Gardens.

In Saturday's games third placed Tivoli Gardens oppose Molynes United at noon and a win will ensure a top two finish, while at 2:00 pm, Cavalier square off with Vere United. A victory for either and Tivoli failing to win will see them finishing second.
