Portmore United return to winning ways in RSPL

Defending champions Portmore United returned to winning ways while condeming UWI FC to their fourth defeat of the season following a 2-1 scoreline in their Red Stripe Premier League fixture at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on Sunday. UWI took the lead in the first minute of play through a strike from Trevante Stewart. However, 11 minutes later, former national striker Corey Burke made it 1-1 with a goal for Portmore in minute 12.

Rondee Smith than gave the title holders the lead in minute 26, giving the Ricardo Gardener-coached team their third win of the season and taking them 4th with 10 points. Elsewhere, a 83rd minute goal from Barrington Pryce gave Tivoli a share of the points in their game against Vere United for whom Zain Hylton netted in the 16th minute.

The result sees both teams remaining in the relegation zone on 5 points each. In the other 3:30 contest, Dunbeholden and Humble Lion played out a goalless draw. In the late kickoffs, leaders Molynes United dropped their first points of the campaign after a 0-0 draw away to Harbour View while Waterhouse tagged Arnett Gardens 3-1. Cavalier will meet Mount Pleasant in the Monday night fixture at Stadium East.
