Reggae Girlz captain wins US collegiate conference award

Captain of the national senior women's football team Konya Plummer has been named Defensive Player of the Year for the American Athletics Conference. The 22 year old University of Central Florida senior became the youngest captain at the FIFA Women's World Cup when she led the Reggae Girlz in their debut appearance at the world tournament in June.

In her final year at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, the St Mary native had a stellar season, starting in 16 out of the 17 regular matches for the UCF Knights. Plummer was a major part of UCF Knights' solid backline, and was critical in the team conceding just seven goals.

The centre back has been representing Jamaica since her youth days and is a former student of Annotto Bay High and Titchfield High.
