Jamaica's Reggae Girlz defeated Nigeria 1-0 in the first of two friendly internationals at the BBVA Stadium in Houston, Texas on Thursday evening.
An early second half goal from World Cup veteran Deneisha Blackwood gave the Jamaicans the win. Blackwood made amends for an early miss when she scooped a penalty to the Nigerian goalkeeper after striker Jody Brown earned a spot kick after some individual brilliance.
The Reggae Girlz, who missed several chances, were put under pressure late in the game but they held on for the win over the Super Falcons, their first win over an African team.
The Reggae Girlz will meet world champions the United States in another friendly on Sunday also at the BBVA Stadium in Houston, Texas.
