Sammy named independent director of CWI

Former West Indies captain Daren Sammy has been appointed an independent director at the Ricky Skerritt-led Cricket West Indies (CWI).

The two time World Twenty20 winning captain is the newest independent member to the board of directors  with noted Jamaican sports medicine physician Dr Akshai Mansingh and Trinidadian attorney Debra Coryat-Patton returning for another two year stint.

CWI's articles allow for up to four non-member directors which means there is one slot remaining. All directors' appointments will expire in 2023 at the conclusion of CWIs Annual General Meeting of that year.

According to a CWI release on Tuesday, the appointment of Sammy who had publicly endorsed Skeritt's 2019 presidency bid, is in keeping with two of the fundamental principles which have guided CWI's improvement strategy for the past two years – increased utilization of regional technical expertise and the implementation of a cricket first policy.
