Scorpions produce mixed batting display against Hurricanes

A mixed batting display has left the Jamaica Scorpions trailing the Leeward Islands Hurricanes by 74 runs at stumps on day 2 of their regional 4-day championship encounter at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.

The Scorpions reached 186-6 in their first innngs reply at the close.

Leroy Lugg has so far top scored with 79, while Paul Palmer made 47 and Abhijai Mansingh 34 not out.

Lugg and fellow opener Kirk McKenzie, who got 18, put on 60 for the first wicket, while Palmer and Mansingh added 72 for the 5th. Gordon Bryan is the other not out batsman on nought.

Rahkeem Cornwall has so far led the bowling for the Hurricanes with 3-47, while Colin Archibald has 2-37.

Earlier, the Hurricanes were dismissed for 260 in their first innings after resuming on 163-6. Jeremiah Louis took his overnight 17 to 78 not out, while Cornwall failed to add to his overnight 29.

Marquino Mindley claimed 3-28; Mansingh 3-47 and Gordon Bryan 2-52.

Meanwhile, the Windard Islands Volcanoes are holding a healthy overall lead of 325 runs over the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force after day three of their contest in St George's, Grenada.

Kimani Melius who resumed on 32, went on to slam 192 including 3 sixes and 18 fours, as the Windwards ended the day on 373-3 in their second innings, having resumed batting on 62-0.

Kavem Hodge also got among the runs with 80, while Alick Athanaze weighed in with an unbeaten 49 and Sunil Ambris 42 not out.

Bryan Charles has so far taken 2-92. The Red Force had made 315 in their first innings.

Over at the Sir Viv Richards Ground in Antigua, defending champions the Barbados Pride trail the Guyana Harpey Eagles by 266 runs, reaching 105-3 in reply to 371 t the close of day three. Sheyne Moseley is not out on 65 for the Pride.

The Harpey Eagles had earlier taken their overnight 205-5 to 371 all out with Matthew Nandu carrying on from 70 to 128 and Kevin Sinclair who resumed on 28, going on to make 43.

Veerasammy Permaul chipped in with 37 against Jair McAllister 3-43 and Chaim Holder 3-72.
