Sir Everton Weekes laid to rest

West Indies batting legend Sir Everton Weekes was laid to rest on Thursday morning, following a funeral service at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Weekes was buried on the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus alongside greats Clyde Walcott and Frank Worrell, with whom he had shared the famous “Three W's” nickname.

Weekes, who made his debut for the West Indies in January 1948 and played 59 tests in an illustrious career, died on July 1 at 95 years old.

He had been ailing for some time after suffering a heart attack in early 2019.
