South Africa pulls out of upcoming tri-nation netball series in Jamaica

Radio Jamaica Sports has been reliably informed that South Africa has pulled out of next month's tri series  involving hosts Jamaica as well as Trinidad and Tobago citing Covid-19 concerns.

It’s understood after much deliberations between Netball Jamaica and South Africa Netball, the world number 5 ranked South Africans decided to forgo the series due to rising Covid 19 cases in Jamaica.

But, while the South Africans have withdrawn its understood Caribbean neighbours the world number 10th ranked Trinidad and Tobago are still committed to the series which could now feature another guest team.

The series will see the Sunshine Girls returning to competitive action for first time since January 2020.  Netball Jamaica is expected to make an official statement on the status of the series in coming days.

The series which will be held in honour of Netball Jamaica first president Magaret Beckford will be played without spectators at the National Indoor Sports Centre from October 9-23. The Sunshine Girls are also expected to travel to England for a three match series from November 28 to December 5.
