Sunshine Girls going for gold at Commonwealth Games

With the nation still basking in the success of the track and field athletes at the just concluded Under 20 World Championships in Cali, Colombia, and also the Birmingham, 2022 Commonwealth Games all eyes now turn to the netball courts this afternoon.

Jamaica's Sunshine Girls will be in action today in a highly anticipated final against Australia.

They qualified for a Commonwealth Games final for the first time in their history after recording a 67-51 victory over New Zealand in their semi-final fixture.

The Sunshine Girls enter today's gold medal match with a slight psychological edge over the so-called Australian Diamonds, after pulling off an upset 57-55 victory in their final Pool A game.

Jamaica won bronze at the Championships four years ago in Australia.

The Connie Francis-coached Sunshine Girls is expected to take to the Courts at 2:30 pm local time.

Meanwhile, earlier today, Elaine Thompson-Herah, produced a rapid anchor leg to secure a bronze in the women's 4x100m.

Nigeria stormed to victory with England earning silver.

Jamaica rounded out their final day performance at the Birmingham, 2022 Commonwealth Games with a 13 medal haul.

A breakdown of the medals showed Jamaica copping 6 Gold 4 Silver and three bronze.
