Swimmer Alia Atkinson to miss Pan Am Games

National swim coach Gillian Millwood says Jamaica's team will still be well represented at the upcoming Pan American Games in Peru despite the absence of top medal contender Alia Atkinson. Atkinson will miss the Games due to its proximity in dates to the World Aquatics Championships which will be held this month.

The swim portion of the Pan Games will be held from August 5-10, while the World Championships will run from July 12-28. Coach Millwood says while Atkinson will be missed, Emily McDonald and Michael Gunning have the experience to contend for medals at the Games.

Meanwhile, coach Millwood says it will be a packed schedule for Jamaican swimmers this summer, as along with the Pan Am Games, the CAC Championships and the World Championships, there is also the prestigious Goodwill Meet.
