Tornadoes coach bemoans lack of opportunities for younger swimmers

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Jordan Forte

Though most of the nation's top swimmers are now back in training, head coach of Tornadoes Swim Club, Wendy Lee says the younger swimmers are now being disenfranchised, as COVID-19 restrictions continue to affect the local sporting industry.

Swimming like all other sports, hasn't had competition since the onset of COVID-19 in the island in March, but Lee says a number of swimmers have been back in training since August. However, while most of the national representatives are back in training she says some swimmers are still being left behind.

Lee, who was speaking on Hitz 92 FM’s Sports Grill, says that the feeder programmes have also been affected based on the fact that schools have been closed for face to face classes since March.

In the meantime, Lee who has also served as national coach, says she is still holding out hope that there can be some competitions before the end of the year.
