Two track meets set for this weekend cancelled

At least two track and field meets scheduled for this weekend have been cancelled. While the government has given approval for the meets to be held, spectators are not allowed.

It's understood that meet organizers for the Douglas Forrest Invitational are struggling to finance the implementation of Covid-19 protocols with sponsors staying away from a spectatorless product.

A notice on the JAAA website has confirmed that the meet has been cancelled due to quote: "issues arising from the Covid-19 pandemic."

Meanwhile, Maurice Wilson, Meet Organizer for the JAAA/Puma Development Meet which was scheduled for the Kirkvine Sports Club in Mandeville, Manchester, has confirmed that the meet has been postponed.
Wilson says approval was not granted as the Local Government Ministry has stipulated that requests for approval be submitted four to six weeks ahead of the proposed date.

He says a new date is to be arranged. Radio Jamaica Sports could not confirm whether the JAAA/Puma meet scheduled for Stadium East will be held. Three meets were held last weekend as Jamaica prepare to host the Carifta Games in April.
