Windies avoid follow-on against Sri Lanka in opening test

The West Indies are set to resume on 224-9 in their first innings reply on day four of the first test against Sri Lanka in Galle.

They still trail by 162 runs in pursuit of the Sri Lankans first innings 386. Joshua da Silva wiil return to the crease on 11.

On the rain-affected day three, Kyle Mayers carried on to 45 from his overnight 22, while Jason Holder made 36 after resuming on 1.

Rakheem Cornwall also made a rear guard 39, as the West Indies avoided the follow on. Praveen Jayawickrama has so far taken 3-39 and Ramesh Mendis 3-75

Rain washed out the entire final  session on the on the day, while only four overs were completed after lunch.
