The West Indies put the disappointment of their One Day International (ODI) series loss to Ireland behind them with a commanding 9 wicket win over England in the first game of their 3-match T20 series at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday.
Having called right at the toss and inserted England to bat, the Windies wasted little time in skittling out the visitors. After 2 overs it was 10-3 thanks to the efforts of Sheldon Cottrell and Jason Holder.
Despite a couple of big hits from James Vince, he was removed by Cottrell for 14 while captain Eoin Morgan was dismissed by Romario Shepherd for 17, before rearguard efforts from Chris Jordan 28 and Adil Rashid 22, pushed the English to 103 all out after being 49-7 at one stage.
Player of the Match Holder was the pick of the bowlers with 4-7. Jamaican Brandon King then piloted the Windies to victory at 104-1 off 17.1 overs with an unbeaten 52. King hit 4 fours and a six in his 49 ball knock.
Vice-captain Nicholas Pooran supported with 27 not out after Shai Hope was dismissed for 20. The second match will be played at the same venue on Sunday.
