Windies women qualify for 2022 World Cup based on ranking

The West Indies women's cricket team have qualified for the 2022 Cricket World Cup by virtue of their ranking as the qualifiers in Zimbabwe have been abandoned.

The International Cricket Council announced that the qualifiers were abandoned due to the spread of the new strain of Covid-19 on the African continent.

The West Indies' match against Sri Lanka on Saturday was not played as a member of Sri Lanka's support staff tested positive for the virus.

The top three teams from the qualifiers were slated to qualify for the Women's Cricket World Cup in New Zealand next year.

Under the tournament's playing conditions, the three qualifiers have been decided by their ranking.
With Bangladesh at 5th, West Indies at 7th and Pakistan at 8th, this trio will advance to the World Cup next year.

The trio will join Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa and India at the tournament.

The 2022 Women's Cricket World Cup is set to run from March 4 to April 3. This will be the West Indies' 7th World Cup appearance.
