World champion Gayle takes third at meet in Switzerland

In his first meet in Europe this season, 2019 world champion Tajay Gayle cut the sand at 7.99 metres to finish third in the long jump event in the Gala Dei Castelli meet in Switzerland on Tuesday.

Gayle who has a season's best of 8.13 metres, achieved the mark on his fourth jump to land behind Kristian Pulli 8.08 and Samaai Ruswhal 8.04.

Prior to leaving for Europe, Gayle participated in three Velocity Fest meets, his last one being on August 29, where he jumped 8.04 metres.

Gayle's has a personal best jump of 8.69m which landed him the gold medal at the World Championships in Doha last year.
