The Bank of Jamaica has granted Barita Financial Group a license to operate as a financial holding company, marking a major regulatory milestone for the Cornerstone-led Financial Group.
The license, issued on Tuesday brings Barita Financial Group in line with the framework set out under the Banking Services Act, which requires financial groups to be structured for consolidated supervision by the central bank.
The new structure is designed to strengthen governance, improve group-wide risk management, and clarify accountability across banking, securities, and related financial services activities.
The approval follows a corporate reorganization completed in April 2025, when Barita Financial Group became the holding company for several entities, including Barita Investments and Cornerstone Trust & Merchant Bank, as part of efforts to meet regulatory requirements.
Since its acquisition in 2018, Barita has expanded significantly, emerging as one of Jamaica's leading securities dealers, supported by acquisitions and partnerships, aimed at broadening its asset management capabilities.
