Barita Investments says it was well prepared for the Bank of Jamaica's decision to raise interest rates, having diversified its income sources and strengthened its balance sheet.
Chief Executive Officer Ramon Small-Ferguson says the company anticipated that interest rates could rise and took steps to protect its earnings.
Speaking on Real Business, Mr. Ferguson said Barita is now positioned to generate more income from its real estate investments, advisory services and other off-balance-sheet activities.
He said the company will also benefit from higher yields on government and Bank of Jamaica securities.
According to Mr. Ferguson, these additional income streams should help to offset the higher interest costs Barita will face on customer deposits.
