The Bank of Jamaica says the value of its digital currency in circulation fell by $15 million in August to stand at $279.2.
The decline comes as consumers continue to rely heavily on cash to pay for goods, services and bills.
There were about 305,000 registered users of the central bank digital currency at the end of last year.
Former Bank of Jamaica Governor Richard Byles had described the low usage of the digital currency as one of his biggest frustrations.
He said one of the main challenges was the limited number of places where the currency is accepted.
He had also offered to help merchants secure financing to upgrade their machines.
However, members of the Jamaica Bankers Association argued that upgrading their systems to accept the digital currency would require significant investment.
