CMU President Professor Andrew Spencer and Captian Jedrzej Meirzewski, CEO of KFTL

Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited has forged a partnership with Caribbean Maritime University [CMU] to boost its workforce and improve the availability of skilled labour for port operations.

CMU President Professor Andrew Spencer says the deal has a number of key outcomes, with "the long game" being "to have a Kingston Container Terminal Limited Centre of Excellence here at the Caribbean Maritime University."

In the interim, he said the collaboration between the two entities will see a number of apprenticeships and scholarships and internships provided by KFTL for CMU students.

Students will also have access to opportunities from the KFTL's global partners.

Captian Jedrzej Meirzewski, CEO of KFTL, in his comments on the emerging collaboration, noted that there's been a high demand for Jamaican talent on the international scene, to fill posts at major global shipping firms.
