FTC to revisit proposed buyout of Massy Distribution

The Fair Trading Commission (FTC) says it will be conducting a second review of the proposed buyout of Massy Distribution (Jamaica) by Acado, jointly owned by Agostini of Trinidad and Goddard Enterprises.

The FTC says this second review is necessary because the takeover could lead to a reduction in the level of competition in the distribution and pharmaceutical sectors and, by extension, higher prices to consumers.

This is because Agostini owns Health Brands, the leading player in the local distribution of pharmaceutical and medical products, and the addition of Massy Distribution Jamaica would give it a monopoly.
