The Government of Jamaica says it generated $448.8 billion in tax revenues and grants during the period April to August of this fiscal year.
It says this amount was 1.3% more than the $442.8 billion in budgeted for.
Tax revenues were running at $356 billion or 2.2% more than programmed for.
However, despite this higher than programmed revenue collection, it spent only $466 billion, 2.9% less than the amount projected.
The $21 billion capital budget was underutilised by 19%.
The fiscal deficit, which measures the difference between what the government collects in revenues and grants and what it spends, was $17.8 billion, when it should have been $37.6 billion.
Meanwhile, the primary surplus, or the amount of money which is set aside to service the debt was $50.5 billion, when it should have been $36.4 billion.
