GSRJ undertakes work on second ship-servicing project

German Ship Repair Jamaica has received its second ship-servicing project, 'The Vikrant Dolphin'.

The vessel, moored in the shipyard in Kingston, is a diving support barge registered in St. Kitts.

It operates in the Gulf of Mexico within the offshore oil industry.

This comes weeks after the completion of restoration and maintenance services for its first client, the heavy-lift vessel 'Mexican Giant'.

GSRJ Chief Executive Officer Colonel Martin Rickman says although the shipyard's construction is still underway, there are plans to install additional
docks.

He says the immediate plan is to finish that construction, which includes a state-of-the-art workshop for engine and steel fabrication works.

Once that work is done, the company says it plans to build more workshops and, possibly, in the next couple of years, a second or third floating dock.

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Aubyn Hill says he is optimistic about the contribution of the dry dock company to Jamaica's economy.
