The Agro Investment Corporation says Hurricane Melissa caused an estimated $1.3 billion in damage to the agricultural sector, affecting 10 agro parks and 16 production zones covering about 1,500 acres of arable land.
The corporation says the hardest hit areas were Ebony Park, Spring Plains and the Parnassus agro parks, which together sustained damage of more than $600 million. 2
In those locations, 98 farmers were affected and some 262 acres of farmland damaged.
Chief Executive Officer Vivion Scully says the agency has activated its Hurricane Melissa Recovery Framework, supported by a $30 million allocation in the 2025/2026 budget.
The programme is aimed at land rehabilitation, the distribution of farm inputs and accelerated replanting to restore production.
