Jamaica Broilers Group is reporting a net loss of one billion dollars for the nine months ending January 31 this year.
The result represents an improvement, compared with the $3.5 billion loss recorded in the corresponding period last year, as the company says its turnaround efforts continue to progress.
Group revenues for the period increased two per cent to $73.6 billion.
The company says its Jamaica operations delivered a strong performance despite disruptions caused by Hurricane Melissa, which affected business activities during the quarter.
The local segment recorded profits of $4.3 billion on revenues of $44 billion.
However, the group says its American operations remain under pressure due to lower selling prices and higher production costs, although revenues for that segment still grew by four per cent.
Management says steps are being taken to address the challenges in the U.S. business and has expressed confidence that the segment will return to making a positive contribution to the group's overall performance in the near future.
