Jamaica spent the most on raw materials and intermediate goods during the first four months of the year, as the country's import bill remained significantly higher than export earnings.
Figures from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) show that between January and April, Jamaica imported US$763 million worth of raw materials and intermediate goods.
The country also spent US$682.5 million on food and consumer goods, US$596 million on fuel and lubricants, US$250 million on capital goods, and US$204 million on transport equipment.
On the export side, STATIN reports that manufactured goods accounted for the largest share of earnings at US$328.8 million.
Exports from the mining and quarrying sector totalled US$152.8 million, while agricultural exports generated US$13.7 million.
